Gain training on how to remove and replace various vehicle body parts using plastic techniques and hand tools with the Apprenticeship in Vehicle Body and Paint Operations.
Training takes place at work so if you want to work with cars and other vehicles in this way – perhaps assessing/repairing damage, restoring paintwork etc. – this could be the apprenticeship for you.
An apprenticeship includes several elements and you will need to pass all of them to gain your qualification.
• Level 2 NVQ Vehicle Body Repair
• Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT
• Employment Rights and Responsibilities
The NVQ2 in Vehicle Body Repair includes the following units:
• good housekeeping
• health and safety
• working relationships
• remove and replace non-structural panels (both bolted and welded)
• repair non-structural panels
You have up to 18 months to achieve all the elements of your apprenticeship, although you may be able to achieve it quicker depending on your progress.
Apprenticeships are designed to let you benefit from real life work experience, which you will get day-to-day while at work doing your job. This experience is supported by theoretical knowledge gained at college in both classroom and workshop based sessions/assessments.
You attend college on one or two days a week. Your assessments are carried out by a qualified and trade competent assessor who will help support you and your employer in achieving your qualification. Functional skills are assessed by exam.
You build the basic skills and experience necessary to carry out many body and paint tasks on a variety of vehicles. You gain a valuable insight into this industry and the future career opportunities that are available to you.
Upon application you will be invited in for an interview and an initial assessment to make sure that the course is right for you.
There are no other restrictions to becoming an apprentice except that you need to be over the age of 16 and to have been settled in the UK for at least the past three years.
On successful completion of this Level 2 apprenticeship, you could move on to a Level 3 apprenticeship (if your employer covers the right range of work). Possible job roles include mechanical, electrical and trim technicians, and body repair technician.
